My dear Leong，
Your letter of the 14th inst.is before me.I see you have more family eares to undertake than I expected and consequently you cannot well leave your present post for the offer I made.Pray let me know what you are getting from the consulate now and I will see what I can do to put you in a better position in regard to financial matters.Of course being my private secretary and foreign correspondent you will always be with me-Shanghai， Kaiping or in my travels.It was not intended that you should live up here all the time.The post is a permanent one.

你本月14号的信摆在我面前。我发现你需要负担比我预期更多的家庭人口，所以不能放弃现在的职位而选择我为你提供的。好在我知道你现在可从领事馆挣得薪水，我看能不能将你安排到更高薪水的职位。当然，作为我的私人秘书和外事代理，你可经常陪着我，无论是上海、开平，或是我的旅途中。但这并不意味着你得所有时间都呆在这里。这是个永久的职位。
