Sir,
Referring to your letter of 21st December resigning your appointment of first linguist in this consulate, I am now in receipt of a despatch from Sir Thomas J.Wade K.C.B.H.M's Minister in which he writes as follows“you will express to Mr.Leong C.Weng my regret that he has found it necessary to quit a post in which I am aware that he has rendered excellent service”.
Speaking from my own knowledge and from what I have learnt from officers in charge of the shipping office, I have also much pleasure in expressing my high appreciation of the business like and intelligent manner in which you have for your duties.
