My dear Sun Yat-Sen,
This is to tell you how we both wish you success with all our hearts now that you will be arriving at your destination. Our prayers go with you, wherever you may be God will guide your footsteps & your judgment we feel quite sure.
A man who is agent here for the Robe Herald (Japan)came in & wanted to know from Dr.Cantlie all about you.He said he was told by the editor of the Robe Herald to give every particular about you & to spend as much as £100 in telegrams to that effect. He went on to inform my husband that you were the only man in China that Japan would support, so if you have the Americans, the Japanese & ourselves, you must succeed.
An American editor too last night telephoned Mr.Cantlie & asked if you were safe to back as Wu Ting-Fang had telegraphed asking the Americans to get the Powers to recognize the Reformers. My husband told this editor that must telegraph Wu Ting-Fang to force his Cabinet & put you in as Premier & then the Powers would back the Reformers he thought.
So you see we are kept up in our interest & hope for you.
Another man came in today & get a cast of your hand. You see how much you are thought of.And well you deserve it too.
Go on & prosper.Set your feet upon the Rock that never can fail.
You are the Garebaldi of China.I was the first to say so.Now the Review of Reviews says so and there fore it must be true.
Yours faithful friends,
James & Mabel Cantlie
