Hon.Wu Ting Fong,Minister for Foreign Affairs,For the Republican Government,Shanghai, China.

Dear Sir,

About the year 1904, I sent you a registered letter enclosing some newspaper cuttings relating to various Chinese matters in Australia, and also a copy of an article written by me entitled “WHITE AUSTRALLA” etc.with a view to helping our country to go forward.I also thought out several schemes relating to China's Internal and External affairs (a copy of these schemes also enclosed therein). When sending that letter I was much younger in years, and being over anxious to do something for our country I made some very bold and childlike suggestions relating to myself. Now, Sir, I must apologise for my boldness. No doubt it was through that you never acknowledged my letter, or else the letter must have gone astray.

As an active member of the Young China League here and also as a Christian I wish to offer you my sincere congratulation upon the firm stand you take against that despotic and corrupt Manchu Government.Daily I pray for you and for the success of our Republican Army.As a patriotic man I am still very anxious to do whatever I can for our country.Enclosed please find a few suggestions that I thought out.May they be some help to our new Republican Government.I am a native of Sun Way Canton.I came to this country about 20 years ago and am now 36 years of age.In all Chinese Political matters here I always take an active part in fighting for our people against European injustice, I am well known here and am well respected by both the Chinese and European communities. In Chinese I am only a fair scholar as I came out here when I was very young, but in English I am well acquainted with all European political matters. Many a time I had to fight against European injustice by way of article—writing or public speaking. When I was a lad I thought that some day I might be some use to our Country in some diplomatic service as Consul or other official position in the English-speaking countries, so I determined to study English at night, and in business in the day time.If you think I can do anything to serve our nation I shall be only too happy to do so.I am sure you will be pleased to learn that all Chinese citizens in Australia are Republicans at heart. Our Young China League in Melbourne has been collecting a lot of money and sent it to Hong Kong to help the Revolutionary Movement. The Chinese Consul General here is not in sympathy with the Republican Movement. The Young China League Committee just asked me to draft out a letter, and we have forwarded it to him (Enclosed please find a copy). Our League has already sent a Representative to help you.He is a very earnest man—in fact he and I practically started the Revolutionary Movement here. His name is Wong Shee Ping.He will be in Shanghai before this letter reaches you. Please try and find him, and give him all encouragement you can.He will tell you all about the different affairs in Australia. In conclusion, I pray that God will help you and Dr.Sun Yat Sen and others.Pray that a great Eastern Republic will soon be established, and that our Country will henceforth go forward and soon become a powerful nation.

Trusting that we will hear good news from you soon.

Your sincere comrade in the Revolutionary Movement,

Wong Loy Wong

P.S.

Kindly give our sincere thanks to Dr.Sun Yat Sen for his great help to our nation.Personally I have not had the pleasure of communicating with him although while he was in the United States, the Young China League here was constantly cabling to him re money and other matters. If you have no objection please show him my letter to you, and also the suggestions enclosed.Later on I will write to Dr.Sun Yat Sen and I might send him copy of your letter and other matters.

W.L.W.
