Dear Sir：
As an American citizen， dwelling on the Pacific Coast， who has for years been deeply interested in the study of China's economic and political future; I desire to congratulate you and the people of China upon the steps already taken towards the establishment of a Republic， and to express the hope that the near future will see China taking her place among the free， enlightened and progressive nations of the world.
My familiarity with the history， the social traditions， the scholarship and the splendid natural civilization of old China，leads me to believe that the triumphs of “new China” are cetain to eclipse anything so far acomplished in the Orient.I have been a student of Chinese life and customs for ten years and there never has been a time when I have not believed and prophesied that China once awakened would challenge the admiration of the world.So much of all Oriental art， religion， scholarship and industrial development was obtained directly from Chinese institutions that no earnest student of its history could fail to enthuse over its possibilities in the event of its becoming active in its own behalf， along the lines of modern thought and modern progress.
I am anxious to see my Government recognize the new Republic as soon as conditions have sufficiently clarified to make it evident that the Republic will survive.I have just written my friend the Senator from this State to this effect and asked his cooperation.I will do the same with other representatives in Congress.
Permit me to assure you of my sympathy and encouragement in the great work you are just beginning.Accept my message of good will， as a citizen of the United States; for the peace， prosperity and liberty of the Chinese people.

尊敬的先生：
作为一个居住在太平洋海岸的美国公民，多年来一直对中国经济和政治未来之研究深感兴趣；祝贺您和中国人民建立一个共和国所取得的阶段性成就，并希望不久的将来，看到中国列于世界自由、开明和进步国家之列。
我熟悉古老中华文明的历史、社会传统、学术与优美的自然风光，这使我相信，“新中国”的胜利一定会超越目前为止东方创造的任何成就。我用10年时间，学习中国生活和风俗习惯，毫不怀疑并预言，中国一旦被唤醒，将令世界赞叹。所有东方艺术、宗教、学术和工业发展的诸多成份，直接渊源于中国的制度。认真学习其历史的人，会热心推动中国沿着现代思想和现代进步的道路前进，为其自身利益而积极努力。
只要有足够条件确认共和国将生存下去，我希望看到我的政府承认新共和国。为此，我刚刚向我的朋友、州参议员写了信，请求他的合作。我会向其他国会议员做同样的事。
请允许我对您正在开始的伟大工作予以同情和鼓励，接受我作为美国公民为中国人民的和平、繁荣和自由而祝福的美好心愿。
