AUSTIN P.BROWN

REAL ESTATE, RAILROAD AND CORPORATE FINANCIER

1407 15TH STREET NORTHWEST

Washington, D.C., January 3, 1912

Dr.Wu Ting-fang,Attorney General,Republic of China,Nanking, China,

Dear General:

The following is a copy of a letter just received from Senator Isidor Rayner, of Baltimore, Maryland, to wit:

United States Senate,Washington, D.C.

January 2, 1912.

Austin P.Brown, Esq.,1407 Fifteenth Street, N.W.,Washington, D.C.

Dear Sir:

I have received your letter, and I will look into the matter you write about, and will be glad to talk to some of the members of our Committee in reference to the same.

Very truly yours,

Isidor Rayner.

I wrote Senator Rayner because of my personal acquaintance with him and of the high esteem in which he is held by the people throughout the country on account of his unusual knowledge and ability.

He is a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate, with the members of which committee he says he will talk, and I feel hopeful that effective results will soon be in evidence.

I read with a great deal of interest and much instruction in last Sunday's issue of the New York American (Mr.Hearst's paper)an article written by Dr.Sun Yat Sen, your recently elected President.

Our people, as well as the people of the whole world, almost, are generally ignorant in respect to the real character and intelligence of the Chinese People, and I hope that your President will continue to write instructive articles to the press of all countries in respect thereto, and that you and others of your most enlightened people will do likewise.

I greatly admire Dr.Sun for the great ability and perseverance he has displayed in establishing the Chinese Republic, and you will favor me if you will extend to him my personal congratulations upon his election to the Presidency thereof.

And it goes without saying that I greatly admire you for the part you have taken in aiding him in his great undertaking and heartily extend to you my congratulations upon your appointment to the position of Attorney General in his cabinet.

With best wishes, as ever.

Your friend,

Austin P.Brown
