Dr.Sun Yat Sen,President of the Republic of China,Nanking, China

Dear President Sun:

I beg you to accept of most hearty congratulations from me.

I am very glad you are the president of the great country of China, because you are a good man, and wish to do good to the people.I am a little American-Chinese girl, nine years old, born in Honolulu.I attained the Royal school, and am in the 5th grade.I wish I were a big lady now, so I could go and help China.

My auntie, Miss Whiteman, and I have made many bandages for the sick soldiers. My mamma is a teacher in a college in Shanghai. She is an American-Chinese too, and very glad to have you the president, and China a republic.

I have a Chinese army flag which Mr.Chang Chow gave me one night when we had a big Republican parade, so I think a great deal of it.

I have earned $3 this week, selling souvenir buttons, which I shall give to Mr.Damon to send to the sick soldiers.I pray to God to help you in your great and good work, every day, and I know he will help you.I hope the war will soon be all pass forever, and all the little boys, and girls be happy in the “New China”.God will take care of you.

Good Bye.

Your little friend,

Gertrude Chin-Qi Wong
