San Francisco, Jan.7, 1912

Dr.Sun Yat-sen,

My dear friend & comrade.Perhaps I should address you as your excellency, which I would gladly to, but I prefer to remember you as a friend about the S.S.Korea when you as the man of exile was denied a landing to the so-called land of the Free; When we talked so pleasingly about the future of China, when you entrusted me with a letter to one of your friend & gentleman on Commercial St.which was the means of your landing. As a revolutionist myself I have watched the trend of events transpiring as rapidly through the world that my fondest hopes will yet be realized; when nations will live as peaceable neighbors, when race, color, religion and all the prejudices of the past will be obliterated, when men will be free and love.

I now wish that your future will be crowned with success and that happiness will compensate you for your past worry, labor and persecution.

Yours in love of memory,

Andrew Sovensen

U.S.Customs Inspector

Room 3, P.O.Ferry Bedg.
