Bailie Colonization Scheme.
I have the honour to inform you that the Committee of which I am the Honorary Secretary and a list of the Members of which I enclose herewith is arranging two Gala Performances at the Lyceum Theatre here on February 12th & 13th to obtain funds in aid of Mr.Bailie's Famine Relief Scheme，a brief explanation of which is enclosed for favour of personal.
I am directed by my Committee which， as you will see， is composed of the leading foreign Residents of Shanghai， to request the honour of your patronage for these two Performances and my Committee trust that you will see your way to comply with their request in consideration of the excellance of the Charity which they have in view to support.
I am further directed to say that my Committee would be greatly honored if you could by any means arrange to be at the first performance on the 12th.
I further have the honour to inform you that we hope to obtain a considerable sum by the sale of programs and venture to approach you with the request that you will be good enough to sign 100 copies of the programme which will enable us to sell them at a greatly enhanced price.
My Committee are hoping to interest prominent Chinese Officials and gentlemen in this Scheme of famine relief and if you can see your way to assist them in the directions here indicated， success would no doubt be assured.

谨通知您，为给裴义理先生的拓殖计划筹款，义赈会将于2月12、13日在兰心大戏院安排两场晚会。我是义赈会的名誉干事，随函附上该会的成员名单，并附上该计划的简短说明，供您参考。
义赈会由上海最重要的侨民组成。受义赈会委托，如您所见，请求您赞助这两场演出。义赈会相信，考虑到他们希望支持的慈善事业的卓越性，您会答应他们的请求。
我还被指示，如果您能拔冗出席12日的第一次演出，义赈会将感到万分荣幸。
需要进一步说明的是，我们希望通过出售计划书筹集一笔可观的款项，因此冒昧请求阁下为100份计划书签名，这样，我们可以以更高的价格出售。
