Dr.Sunwen,President,Provisional Government,China.
Sir,
I am sending you a copy of the Strait Times and also letters from the President of this place for you personals which contain a very serious indictment against the active members of your party and I am afraid will do much harm.
When acknowledging any remittance I would suggest that you sent a proper receipt of other with a false one, so that if necessary the false one may be used. The false one should contain particulars of the reason for the remittance and in this condition I think you could do better than stating that it is sent to help the Red Cross Societies.
I may tell you that the resources and generosity of the local people have been very seriously taxed so much as that every person subscribe twice or thrice.
I do not hope that much ever can be obtained in the future although I recognize that this is an opportune moment to appeal to the people's patriotism.
It is reported that things in Canton are getting very much out of hand and I trust you will see that order is reserved.
People here are disgusted and I may say shocked that things so far from being improved have fallen back.
I quite realize how difficult it is at this juncture to put things right, but you understand our people are very impatient and think that things can be put right in a day.
Locally the opinion is now in favor of an immediate settlement as it will not improve our position if matters are prolonged.
Yours Faithfully,
Loke Chow Kit
