To The President.
Dear Dr.Sun：
I had the pleasure of meeting you in Honolulu some years ago， and talking with you of your great movement for China， which is now being achieved.I now wish you every success in this wonderful work for a new and strong China.I send you a letter， that you may not have noticed， showing my views and confidence in this movement for liberty and freedom.I believed the Manchu Dynasty is absolutely lost and that China will become a great and strong Republic.But I earnestly hope that this may be accomplished without more fighting and bloodshed.With danger to our land from Russia and others we all need to speedily unite for the welfare of the nation.I think the imperial family are almost ready to abdicate absolutely in view of the very generous and kind offers given by the Republic government， and I hope every effect may be made to prevent a resumption of hostilities at present， might it not be helpful， if the peace negotiation fail， to prevent a strong and definite ultimatum before the March on Peking? And again state to the Manchu Princes， the generous promises of protection and pensions， if they will abdicate absolutely and leave Peking within a definite time 10 or 15 days or so.Then the very would be clear for recognition by foreign government of the new Republic， which would be built up in accordance with the will of the people.The Manchus are afraid of an ultimatum and I believe would leave Peking with in the time stated.

尊敬的孙博士：
很荣幸数年前在檀香山便认识您，并和您谈及您为中国进行的伟大运动。现在目标已经达成，我祝愿您在建立一个强大的新中国的伟大事业中诸事顺遂。恐怕您没有注意到，我曾给您写过一封信，表明我对这场争取自由解放的运动的观点与信心。我相信清王朝已彻底灭亡，中国会成为一个富强的共和国，但我尤急切地希望毋须更多的战争与流血而达到此目的。由于来自俄国及其他国家对我们领土的威胁，为国家的利益计，我们必须尽快统一。我认为共和国所给予的非常慷慨的优待已使皇室差不多准备完全放弃皇位了。
我希望目前应尽一切努力来防止敌对情绪重新抬头。如果和平谈判破裂，是否在3月份之前发一道强硬的最后通牒给北京更有效？并向清朝皇帝重申承诺，如果他无条件放弃皇位、并在规定的10天或15天之内离开北京的话，就能获得慷慨的保护与津贴。这样，外国政府就比较容易承认新共和国，因为它将是根据人民的意愿而建立的，清王朝是害怕最后通牒的，我相信会在限定时间内离开北京的。
