Dear Dr.Sun，
Permit me to wish you a “Happy New Year”， on this day of celebration， for yourself and for the new Republic of China.I have just telegraphed， to America and to our minister at Peking， telling them the confidence we have in the ability of new China to build up a strong Republic.
We are to have a large Anti-opium meeting here on Sunday.Could you not send me a personal word， showing the policy and intention of the new government to free China from the bandage of opium， and to encourage the people in this important work.
