President Sun Yat Sin,Nanking.
Sir,
During our interview at Nanking, I remember you asked me my Shanghai address, and instead of giving it to you in writing, I very foolishly gave it to you verbally. In Shanghai, I can always be found at the above address.I have also a small business in Hankow, Tientsin & Tsingtao, with connections at Hong Kong.My present line of business is connected with Shipping, loading & discharging of steamers, Godown-keepers & freight agents. As I am established in so many places, I thought I might just let you know, so that, if at any time in the future, you may require my services, I should always be ready to respond to your orders.
For the last 15 years I have travelled a great deal.I spent 2 years in Manila, in business, about 3 years in Selangor F.M.S tin mining and about 2 years in the Fansovoal, South Africa, where I held the position of Chinese Adviser to the East Rand proprietary mines.During the internals, I was always connected with the Parliamentary Rising in Kwang Tung, under order of my brother Tse Tsan Tai, and after each failure was compelled to seek a livelihood abroad so as to throw off suspicion.
I gave up my position of Adviser (Chinese)to the East Rand Gold Mines (a position carrying a salary of £600 per annum with free house)and went purposely to England, where I exposed the illtreatment of Chinese labourers on the Rand, through the late Premier of England, Sir Henry Campbell Barman, certain members of Parliament and a couple of the London papers. This cost me the whole of my 2 years savings, but I am proud to say it was well spent and greatly assisted the stoppage of Chinese labors going to South Africa.
From England, I went to France for a short period & then returned home to Hong Kong.A week afterward, I proceeded North, to learn the Northern dialect & this is my sixth year in north China.I have been a “rolling stone” and consequently have “gathered no moss” but I can confidently say that I have gathered a great deal of experience, which I shall be pleased to lay at your service when required.
Wishing the New Republic and yourself every prosperity.
I have the honor to be,Sir,Your Obedient Servant
Tse Tsi Shaw
