Dr.Sun Yat-sen, President,The Chinese Provisional Government,Nanking.
Dear Mr.President:
I take pleasure in enclosing herewith a list of names and addresses of the graduating class of the Imperial Polytechnic College, written from right to left in the order in which I recommend them, for service in positions that may come up in the future along the lines of their training.I should be pleased to recommend certain students for any particular class of work that may come up.
In our conversation yesterday I stated my intention of leaving China, as I am now negotiating with parties in Japan for a position and am now awaiting their formal acceptance of my terms. However, I want to say that I am planning to leave China, only because of my belief that my services would not be needed for an indefinite time to come because of the unsettlement of affairs politically.I am encouraged to believe, however, from our conversation that I may be wrong in this, and I am therefore taking this opportunity of putting in my application for position with the New Government in any work along the lines of my training and experience, and with this end in view, I attach herewith my record of experience together with copies of letters of credential.
I realize the inopportune time at which this application is made, but it is necessary, as I have already made a partial agreement to go to Japan to make a permanent connection there and in order to change my plans, this application must be acted upon before the time of my acceptance of their offer, which I judge will not be sooner than eight days from the date of this letter.
In the meantime, I shall continue to remain in Nanking,am at your commands and beg to remain,
Yours faithfully,
K.P.Swensen
