My dear Sir：
I am directed by the President to thank you for your letter of the 29th inst.in regard to the Bailie Colonization Scheme.I am also to inform you that the President will be pleased to attend your performance in aid of the undertaking at the Lyceum Theater on February 12th， but the numerous duties of his office which require his daily and constant attention prevent him from making and engagement at such a distant date.He will， however， inform you definitely in due time.
