To The President，Republic of China.
Dear Dr.Sun，
I am much interested in having my country recognize the New Republic， and sent two cables to American today， verging it.Here is also the view of Dr.Franham， who has been fifty years in China.Many Americans feel as I do.However some in Peking do not realize the real condition in the south， and say that the new government only represents Nanking and Shanghai.They do not realize how strong is the support of the provinces.Would it not help if the Governors of the southern provinces would send a telegram， strongly supporting the Nanking central government， to be sent on to the foreign powers? Then they could see plainly how large a territory the New Republic controls.
With best wishes for the success of your great movement， and an early peace.

View of Dr.Franham， 50 years in China
Could not our country which received such substantial assistance in its time of need from France pay the debt by helping this struggling republic? Simply recognizing it， would probably put it on its feet and give it a standing among the governments of the world and save further laying waste of the country and bloodshed.One should never forget what we owe to Lafayette and his followers and the material aid they brought.It is hard to tell how the war of the revolution would have ended but for that assistance.Our country has had a chance to show it remembers with gratitude this great kindness from our neighbour and it would have shown a nobility of character to have helped our next neighbour on the west in similar straits.
The president， Sun Yat sen， in his manifesto (Proclamation of Independence）fires away at the Manchus much as our forefathers did at King George the third， and his accusations are not altogether dissimilar.

尊敬的孙博士：
我极乐意敦促我国承认共和国，今天发了两封电报回美国呼吁此事，这是范约翰博士的观点，他在中国呆了50年，许多美国人和我的感受一样。尽管某些在北京的人并不了解南方的起初情形，说新政府只代表南京和上海，他们没有意识到各省的支持力量的强大，如果南方各省的领导发出电报给各国列强，表示支持南京中央政府不更有益吗？这样，他们就能清楚地看到新共和国控制了多大的地区。衷心祝愿您的伟大运动成功，并早日实现和平。

在华50年之范约翰博士的观点
我国在需要时得到法国如此大量援助，难道不能通过帮助这个苦苦挣扎的共和国（指中国）来偿还债务吗？只不过是承认中华民国，它就有可能站起来，并在世界政府中立足，避免国家的进一步浪费和流血。我们永远也不会忘记拉斐特和他的伙伴们及他们带来的物质援助。如没有这种援助，很难讲那场革命战争将如何结束。我们国家有机会显示其牢记着我们邻邦的恩泽，如果能帮助同一海峡西岸的另一个邻邦，将展现出一种高尚品质。
孙逸仙总统在他的宣言（独立宣言）中抨击满洲人，他的谴责和我们的先辈对乔治三世也没什么不同。
