Dear Mr.President:
I am sending you copies of two days dispatches extended, so as to be more easily read.
For my part I most sincerely trust the attitude of self dependence and assertiveness adopted by the Republic will be continued. There is a rather pretty but deep game being played in Peking, but I trust I see evidence that you are “on to the more” and have your “cheek” in sight & in time.Find it too bad about Lea.I would have been in Nanking, but the cable are so badly disorganized and the telegraph from Nanking so slow that I must stay here to manage my correspondence tool not for cable.
Most faithfully,
Russell Kennedy
