Singapore,No.8D Battery,Road,5th March 1912.
Sir,
When you arrived at Penang on the 13th December 1911, a number of fellow revolutionists went and asked Mr.Chang Yun Fo when would you reach this Colony, who denied any knowledge of your arrival at Penang or coming here as every one was anxious to see you after your long absence.
After you left here on the morning of the 16th December 1911, the fellow revolutionists were displeased with Mr.Chang, in consequent to this, circulars were issued, calling for a meeting in the Chinese Chamber of Commerce concerning Mr.Chang's unwillingness to make known about your arrival.
The meeting was held in the said Chamber, resulting a big quarrel between the attendants in this matter and there was nothing done, when the people dispersed.Mr.Chang has left this Colony for Nanking, Mr.Chin Tse Nan left after him.
The Government here seems to be very strict with the revolutionists and arrested Nan Keao Pao's editor last month with the intention to banish him for publishing an article regarding bombs, the publication was not against the British Government, excepting the Manchu Government in China before it was overthrown.
The Chinese who were arrested by the Dutch Authorities in Java for hoisting flags were released a few days ago at the request of the Chinese Republican Government and the Dutch were surprised owing to the protest of our new Government as no such thing had happened before when the old Government was in existence.
The Chinese always suffer ill treatment from the Dutch, Siamese and the English Governments in Sarawak and the British North Borneo, but the British Government in the Straits Settlements and Federated Malay States treat the Chinese moderately.
The revolutionists are also displeased with Dr.Lin Wen Ching whom you have employed at Nanking who was all the time against the revolutionary movement.I am anxious to join the Chinese Republican Government's service if you will kindly recommend me for same.
Awaiting the favour of your reply.
I am sir,Your most obedient servant.
