President Sun Yat Sen,NANKING.
Dear Sir,
“SHELL” AIR GAS
We understand that at the present time your house at Nanking is lit with Acetylene Gas, also that this System is not giving satisfaction.
We take the opportunity of bringing to your notice the above Light; this has now entirely met the want that has so long been felt for an economical, safe and at the same time brilliant illuminant, as well as a most suitable and efficient means for heating and cooking purposes.
The illuminant itself is a pure, soft light of great diffusive power. In fact with the same candle power it is possible to read with comfort at twice the distance from the light as it is with electric light.
It also has the property of containing all the oxygen required for perfect combustion, and therefore, does not consume or vitiate the air in the rooms.
The producer plant is a neat and compact machine, being entirely automatic it produces only a sufficient supply of gas for the burners actually in use for the time being. If additional burners are put into use the plant (within the extreme capacity of its particular size)immediately adapts itself to the increased requirements. If the lights are turned off the plant in like manner reduces its production of gas.
This system is now considered as being the most brilliant illuminant, and owing to it being odorless gas it is especially suitable for heating and cooking.
As an instance of its world wide reputation, we would bring to your notice a few installations in England, such as:Fort George, Inverness; The Artillery Lines Llydd Camp, Kent
(both the above being for the H.M.Government, who have installed this system and have given five repeat orders for the complete lighting of all barracks, and also for heating.)
In many public institutions“Shell” Air Gas is replacing Coal Gas and electric light, owing to its economy, and in some instances effecting a saving of over 50% per annum.
As a first class light it is an absolute necessity and should you consider the question of an installation we shall be delighted to give you any further information you may desire and to furnish you with an estimate for a complete installation.
We herewith enclose small pamphlet giving a few particulars of our system.
We are, Dear Sir,Yours faithfully,
FOR AND ON BEHALF OF SAMUEL & Co.,LIMITED
E.Bruce Ball
DIRECTOR.
