My Dear Sir：
Before leaving for the north I wish to write and thank you for the many courtesies extend to me.
Mr.Finelay & I leave Shanghai by this evening's boat and expect to reach Peking Tuesday March 19， 1912; we shall stay there for a few days and then start for Taiyuanfu.I shall be glad to write to you from time to time and report conditions at first time.
I feel indebted to you for all you have done for the good counsel and advice you have always given me and I sincerely trust that my conduct will always warrant your confidence.
I enclose a few photos which I beg you to accept.

芬利先生和我乘夜班船离开上海，可望在3月19日星期二抵达北京。我们将在那里停留几天，然后去太原府。我很乐于写信随时向您报告最新情况。
我感觉愧对您对我所做的一切，对您常常给我提出好的建议与指导感到愧疚。我真诚相信我的行动总能不辜负您的信任。
