Dear Sir，
When visiting Nanking Last week Mr.Chockman mentioned to me that your goodself may take a great interest in Industrial Engineering and I feel sure that any scheme of that kind would prove as great a success as the one which has just culminated in the liberation of the Chinese people from a despotic government to one of political and commercial freedom， I have long had the idea that there ought to be a Chinese Engineering firm for the import of machinery，railway material etc.etc.also to do a certain amount of manufacturing， there is no reason why such should not be a success as for certain things there is a sure market.As I have been engaged in Industrial Engineering for some years with two of the leading firms in the East and am at present employed.I would be glad if my humble experience should be of any use to your goodself more especially as am practically a permanent resident in the East and have always been keen on the Industrial Development of this country.
If you should desire at any time to have my views I am always at your service on the subject.

上周访问南京时，乔克曼先生对我提及您本人可能会对工业工程很感兴趣，我相信任何这方面的计划皆将取得重大成就，如同中国人民刚刚成功摆脱专制政权而创立一个拥有政治、商业自由的政府一样。我早就认为，中国应该有一家公司负责进口机械、铁路材料等，同时也从事一定数量的制造业。这没有理由会不成功，因为某些产品肯定有市场。我在两家东方领先的公司从事工业工程已经数年，并仍在岗。由于事实上我是东方永久居民，一直关注贵国的工业发展，如果我的些微经验对您有任何帮助的话，我会特别高兴。
