Most humbly and respectfully I beg to request your honour, that a friend of mine who recently arrived in this port to try his luck, I beg to say that he can read and write English as well as good enough for the work, also he can speak Cantonese language very well; it is hope that your honour will be a good enough to give him any chance in this port or send him anywhere else, further I beg to solicit your favour that I shall guarantee of him if necessary.
I shall ever pray for your long life and prosperity.
Hoping that your honour will reply this letter favourable.
