The Beiji Hall is the village temple of Cuiheng, built during Qing Emperor Kangxi’s reign, and rebuilt many times during the reigns of Qing Emperor Daoguang, Xianfeng and Guangxu. As the oldest building in the village, the Beiji Hall has blue brick walls, gabbled roofs, two yards and three bays, and worships the most popular deities in the Pearl River Delta – the North Emperor, Goddess Jinhua and Goddess Tianhou. In the autumn of 1883, Sun Yat-sen and several companions, including Lu Haodong and Lu Can, destroyed the statues of the North Emperor and Goddess Jinhua. The Beiji Hall was demolished in the late 1960s, but a site remains today.
