Tamarind

A tamarind is in the south of the foreyard of the Former Residence of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. It is said that Dr. Sun Yat-sen brought the tree back from Honolulu and planted it there in 1883. In around 1931, the tree was blown down by a typhoon, but still grows indomitably to become leafy and lush today. On March 8, 1962, Mr. Guo Moruo visited the site and left a verse "酸豆一株起卧龙" ("Sleeping dragon rose from under the tree") to describe the grotesque shape of the tree.
