Originating in the Ming Dynasty, crane dance was developed and popularized in the period of the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China,and is mainly prevalentin Shenmingting Village, Shaxi. With a distinctive style of folk ark, crane dance includes the main acts of crane standing, licking feathers, shuffling and sporting.It has integrated the postures of cranes and the techniques of imitating animal dances, beinga rarity of Chinese folk dances. In 2003, it was invited to the performances of folk art at the Third International Bird Maskdance Festival held in South Korea. In 2007, crane dance was included into the second batch of the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Guangdong Province.
