Yakou Piaose in Nanlang originated in the folk custom of sacrifice ritual"playing with Buddha" in the Tang Dynasty and is held on the 6th day of every lunar May in celebration of the "Dragon King's Birthday". The activity features gorgeous colors, dainty grace, intensive sense of parade rhythm, strong storytelling. Another major characteristic folk art is the exquisite Guangdong embroidery on the plates, umbrellas and colored flags that come out together with Yakou Piaose on a parade. The program was performed in Hong Kong and Macao in 1930s and 1940s. It was included into the second batch ofthe National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of China in March 2008.
