In the Southern Song Dynasty, ancient people came to Xiaolan and were attracted by the chrysanthemums bloomingover everywhere. They settled down here to reclaim wasteland and inhabit. To commemorate the merits achieved by the forefathers of the Southern Song Dynasty by settling down here in the Year of Jiaxuof SongEmperor Xianchun's reign(1274), Xiaolan Chrysanthemum Partywas held in the year of Jiaxu (1814) of Qing Emperor Jiaqing's reign. During the party, the squires of Xiaolan agreed to hold the event in every year of Jiaxu (every 60 years), in the interval of which, chrysanthemum partiesof small or middle scale are held each year or every few years. The rich content of the parties includes appreciatingand, chanting the beauty of chrysanthemumand tasting the food madewith it, full of profound cultural connotations. In 2006, it was included by the State Council into thecatalogue ofrepresentative works ofthe first batch ofthe National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of China.
