Lu Can’s former residence

Lu Can (1874—1949), was Honolulu overseas Chinese, a member of the Revive China Society, and a supporter of Sun Yat-sen’s revolutionary cause. Lu Can was enthusiastic about overseas Chinese affairs. When he served as head of the Chinese Affairs Division of the Diplomacy Department of the Honolulu government and director of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, he assisted Chinese in Honolulu in boarding, participated in founding the Global Chinese Student Association, See Dai Doo Society, and Hawaii Chinese Guild. He contributed much to Chinese public programs in Hawaii. In 1948, Lu Can returned to his hometown Cuiheng Village, and converted the old residence built by his ancestors in 1848 into an overseas Chinese residence in a mixed Chinese and Western style. “1848~1948” is molded in the front pediment, recording the history of this residence, which is still intact today.
