Sun Mei’s tomb

Sun Mei’s tomb is located on the piedmont of the Litoujian Mountain in Cuiheng Village, built in Year 23 of the Republican China period (1934), being a traditional round-chair tomb, made from granite slabs, with a spacious ground and two stone lions in the front. The tomb overlooks the Pearl River estuary, facing a wonderful and mighty panorama. The tombstone is inscribed with “Sun Mei’s tomb, built by Sun Man and Sun Qian on a bright day in March of Year 23 of the Republican China period.” The top part is inscribed with flowing clouds surrounding the sun, three words – richness, noblenessand longevity, and a couplet on both sides. The Central Executive Committee of the Chinese Nationalist Party built a granite 2.5m high and 1.2m wide tombstone west of the tomb, on which Mr. Sun Mei’s epitaph handwritten by Wang Jingwei is inscribed. Sun Mei (1854~1915), also known as Shouping, was the eldest brother of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, and a famous overseas Chineseindustrialist and revolutionist.

In May 2010, Sun Mei’s tomb was listed as one of the sixth group of key protected cultural relics of Guangdong Province.
