The activity debuted in the Ming Dynasty and was developed and popularized in the period of the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China. On the birthday of the Pak Tai God that falls on the third day of every lunar March, boys and girls will dress themselves up as the characters in stories to appear in a parade, which is known as Piaose. Huangbu Piaose uses single color cores, with people shouldering the color stem supports for the parade. The content of the performance subjects includes historical allusions, folklore and opera stories. It features bright colors, beautiful color cores, thin color stemsand rich connotations. In 2007, it was included into the second batch of the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Guangdong Province.
