The festival falls on July 7 when people "expose their clothes and books to the sun" according to custom. It is said that the Cowherd and the Weaving Maid will meet on a bridge formed by magpies on the day. The young girls in the village often exchange their needleworks in the "7th Sister Society" they have set up, which are exhibited on the day when they "worship the 7th Sister (i.e. the Weaving Maid)", such as the "White Gourd Lamp" made with rice and the small delicate "7th Sister Shoes" with exquisite embroidered patterns, all showing the clever mind and skillful hands of the girls. It is said that the spring water is especially good only on the day of July 7th in a year, which is commonly known as "7th Sister Water". Local people will buy a large white gourd, which they will cut into large pieces that are put into a jar containing the "7th Sister Water" they have fetched back early in the day. Then, the jar is sealed until one year later when the content becomes "white gourd water" that clears away heat and toxicity.
